Glenn Harris Weakley, age 89, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Southside Cemetery to celebrate the life of Glenn and his beloved wife JoAnn who preceded him in passing three days prior.
Glenn was born in Montgomery County, TN to Ewing Sanford Weakley and Martha Belle Harris Weakley. As a child, Glenn moved to Pickett County TN with his family. While living there and attending Livingston Academy he met JoAnn Brown, his childhood sweetheart. They married May 3, 1952, and moved back to the Weakley family farm in Southside, TN where Glenn began his lifelong career as a farmer. They resided there happily for 69 years.
Glenn left JoAnn for a short time to serve his country in the United States Army in 1954, where he was stationed in Germany. JoAnn joined him overseas as soon as she could. Glenn returned to the United States in 1956 where he continued his service in the Army Reserves until 1962.
In 1974, Glenn and JoAnn started their dream of rebuilding the settlement of Collinsville. They opened Historic Collinsville to the public in May of 1997, where they operated the land and 18 buildings until they sold it to Montgomery County in November of 2018.
Glenn was a faithful member of Southside United Methodist Church for almost 70 years.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his beloved wife JoAnn, infant daughter Melissa Ann, and sisters; Margaret Harris, Martha Armistead, and Rebecca Moss. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael Armistead, Sandy Armistead, Mike Wyatt, Gene Morgan, Ben Carroll, and Steve Springer. Honorary pallbearers are Lucian Wyatt, Don DeWitt, Dave Williams, Buddy Grimes, and Bruce Cain.
