'Chadwick Boseman: Portrait Of An Artist' Trailer: First Look At Netflix Special

On Thursday, Netflix released the first official trailer for Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist.

The star-studded special will celebrate the life and legacy of the late actor, offering an intimate look at his singular artistry, and the process that informed his transformative performances.

The participants offering behind-the-scenes insights into Boseman’s craft, and his commitment as an artist, include his Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom co-stars Viola Davis, Glynn Turman and Taylour Paige, along with director George C. Wolfe and composer, arranger and music producer Branford Marsalis. Others featured in the special are Black Panther co-star Danai Gurira, actor and Black Panther dialect coach Andile Nebulane, Get on Up and Black Panther choreographer Aakomon “AJ” Jones, Get on Up director Tate Taylor, 42 director Brian Helgeland, Marshall director Reginald Hudlin, Da 5 Bloods helmer Spike Lee, New Federal Theater Director Woodie King Jr., and actor, director, producer and Howard University Professor, Phylicia Rashad.

Rising to fame with roles in 42, Get on Up, Marshall and Black Panther, Boseman received a posthumous Oscar nomination this year for his turn in Netflix drama, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. He also starred last year in Spike Lee’s Vietnam War ensemble pic, Da 5 Bloods, which was likewise distributed by Netflix. The actor died on August 28, 2020 at age 43, following a four-year battle with colon cancer, which he did not speak of publicly.

Chadwick Boseman: Portrait of an Artist will be available globally on Netflix on Saturday, April 17th, starting at 12:00 a.m. PST, and will be available for a limited 30 day window.
