Montague High School volleyball coach Shawn Bectel lives with Crohn’s disease. He acknowledges that the medication he takes compromises his immune system, therefore it puts him in a higher-risk category for serious illness if he contracts COVID-19.
In his mind, wearing a mask on the bench, following all other safety protocols and making the four-hour round trip to Cadillac on a Tuesday are minor concessions in comparison. He just wants his Wildcats team to get the chance to compete and to be able to pursue its lofty goals this season.
