Rent-a-scooters are nice for short rides around the city, but sometimes you just want to sit and ride something a bit more comfortable.

Scoot, a pioneer in the electric mobility space that has recently been acquired by competitor Bird, already has a GenZe electric scooter as well as a kick scooter in its fleet. Now, the company has launched a new vehicle called Scoot Moped.

The moped is, once again, a fully electric vehicle that has a seat and hefty tires, ideally providing a pretty smooth ride. It also boasts hydraulic disc brakes, two side mirrors, an LCD display, and a motor powerful enough, Scoot claims, for steep hill climbs.

Scoot Moped is designed to be ridden on the street or in the bicycle lane if local laws allow it. Riders must be 18 or older and have a valid driver's license, Scoot warns.

The introduction of a new vehicle is on par with Scoot's strategy of "multi-modality," meaning the company believes that urban mobility should be addressed with networks of various shared electric vehicles.

Scoot Mopeds are already available as part of a pilot program in Los Angeles, but Scoot plans to roll the vehicle out in "additional cities later this year." For Scoot or Bird users, not much will change, as the moped will become available in both companies' iOS and Android apps.

Scoot's parent company Bird will reportedly launch a moped/cruiser soon. It'll likely be the same vehicle as the Scoot Moped but with different branding.
