ACTOR Gary Cooke is giving up the smokes with the help of Quit.ie in a new campaign by the HSE.

The funnyman, best known for his impressions of sports commentator Eamon Dunphy, will be posting his journey without cigarettes on the website so that fellow quitters can follow it.

He's also put a shout-out to any smokers who want to join him and QUIT too.

Gary will be using the QUIT services to help him give up smoking. These are available free of charge to anyone who needs it.

The Dubliner says his main reason for cutting out cigarettes is for his health.

He said in the clip: "I used to be a box-to-box midfielder and now I'm simply a box-to-box cigarette smoker."

Like many smokers, Gary has tried quitting before for six or nine months in the year but always went back to them.

He's determined he'll be rid of the smokes this time around saying: "This time I am going to manage it because I'm going to be supported by the QUIT team at Quit.ie."

The QUIT campaign service has helped thousands of people quit smoking, and there are now more quitters than smokers in Ireland.

The service provides a free, personal support service to help quitters – providing a team of trained advisors, online tools, understanding and support.

The QUIT team can help you over the phone, on Facebook or Twitter, via email or text, or through Live Chat via the Quit.ie.

QUIT also has a network of face-to-face HSE QUIT services in locations around the country, providing one-to-one and group support for smokers.

A quitter is twice as likely to quit for good if they use the service, and twice as likely again if they match the support with Nicotine Replacement Therapy such as patches, gum or inhalers or medication.

If you or someone or someone you care about is a smoker, why not join Gary and set your QUIT day today at Quit.ie. Sign up for an online QUIT plan at Quit.ie or call 1800 201 203 to get started.
