Can I keep this car loan even through a bankruptcy?

Q. I filed for bankruptcy. I owe $8,000 on a car loan, which I want to keep and I have continued to pay through my bankruptcy, But all of a sudden they stopped accepting my calls with a recorded message that said they do not have information on my loan and it hangs up. What can I do?

A. It’s possible.

You need to try to contact someone in your lender’s bankruptcy department.

Some companies want individuals who file bankruptcy to file a reaffirmation agreement, which is a new contract stating that the individual will continue to make payments, said Karra Kingston, a bankruptcy attorney in Union City.

Or you should talk to your attorney, if you have one, and as the attorney to contact the company on your behalf, Kingston said.
