KEOSAUQUA — In two home games this season, the Van Buren County football team has scored more than 100 points. On Friday night, the Warriors raced past Louisa-Muscatine, 57-12, for a resounding homecoming win and its second home victory of the season.
A dominating defensive performance by the Warriors kept Louisa-Muscatine out of the end zone for three quarters. During that time, the Warriors scored 12 in the first, 22 in the second and 16 in the third to take a 50-0 lead into the final period.
Louisa-Muscatine finally put up some points in the final quarter, but it was too little too late as the Warriors were already comfortably ahead.
Jackson Manning had an efficient night throwing the ball. He only completed five passes, but they went for 170 yards and four touchdowns. He ran for nine yards and a score.
Manning’s top target was Anthony Dunkin, who caught three passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Dylan Richardson and Lukas McEntee each found the end zone as well.
Wyatt Mertens was electric on the ground, going for 171 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard scamper. Sam Warth ran for 74 yards, and Tyler Stoltz ran for 50.
The Warrior defense refused to let Louisa-Muscatine hold on to the ball. Van Buren County forced five turnovers on the day, four interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Mertens picked off two balls. Manning and McEntee each had one interception, and Owen Loeffler had a fumble recovery.
Van Buren County is now 2-1 on the year.
