Publishing Briefs: Tricky Stewart Strikes Deal With Spirit Music Group, Joyner Lucas Signs With Reservoir

A list of the latest moves in publishing, including Tricky Stewart signing with Spirit Music Group, Joyner Lucas's deal with Reservoir and more. 

Spirit Music Group has signed a global administration deal with producer-songwriter-publisher Tricky Stewart, it was announced March 12. The agreement covers Stewart’s future works.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Stewart has written and produced for artists including Rihanna, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Frank Ocean and Katy Perry, among others. He also heads his own record label and studio, RZ3 Recordings.

“Tricky is a true visionary and powerhouse,” said Spirit Music Group vp, A&R Nancy Matalon in a statement. “Besides influencing so many musical talents, he has championed countless other people along the way. His name is synonymous with hits and his music has deeply impacted contemporary culture.”

Reservoir has signed Grammy-nominated artist-songwriter-producer Joyner Lucas to a worldwide publishing deal, it was announced Thursday (March 26). The deal includes rights to Lucas’s entire catalog and future releases including his debut studio album ADHD, which is due out March 27 on his Twenty Nine Music Group label.

“Lyrically, Joyner is one of the most gifted MCs out there right now,” said Reservoir senior vp of A&R and catalog development Faith Newman in a statement. “I first met Joyner years ago and it’s been inspiring to watch his star rise, while seeing him take control of his career as a fiercely independent artist.”

Joyner was nominated for two Grammys last year: Best Rap Song for co-writing and featuring on Eminem’s “Lucky You” and Best Music Video for his solo single “I’m Not Racist.” He has released the mixtapes Along Came Joyner and 508-507-2209 and in 2018 teamed up with Chris Brown for the collaborative singles project Angels & Demons.

 


 

Reach Music Publishing has entered a multi-dimensional agreement with producer-songwriter-artist Nick Furlong that includes a new joint venture to sign emerging writers, a full acquisition of his share of the hit single “The Nights” by Avicii and an extension of the company’s exclusive global co-publishing deal for his entire catalog.

Announced March 12, the deal will see Reach continuing to co-publish and administer Furlong’s 200-plus catalog of songs recorded by artists including All Time Low, Blink-182, 5 Seconds of Summer, Good Charlotte, Logan Henderson, Papa Roach and Steve Aoki. All new works will continue to be covered as well.

The first signing to Reach’s joint venture with Furlong’s AttaBoy Music is producer-songwriter Tony Livadas. The co-publishing deal with Livadas will include new works as well as 30 catalog songs, including tracks by Logan Henderson, Papa Roach, Brass Knuckles ft. John Ryan and the single “Hanging With Ghosts” by Yung Pinch (ft. Good Charlotte & Goody Grace), which Livadas co-wrote with Furlong and Joel and Benji Madden.

 


 

Concord Music Publishing has signed a global publishing deal with songwriter Richard “Biff” Stannard, the company announced March 19.

The agreement covers all future works as well as key songs from Stannard’s catalog, including those recorded by the Spice Girls (“Wannabe,” “Viva Forever,” “Mama,” “Goodbye,” “2 Become 1”) and cuts by Mya, 5ive, Boyzone, Gabrielle and Kylie Minogue. Stannard is currently working and writing with Minogue, Years & Years, Ella Henderson, Maisie Peters and Leona Lewis.

 


 

Big Machine Music has signed songwriter and RCA recording artist Ryan Hurd to an exclusive global co-publishing deal and acquired his entire publishing catalogs with ASCAP (Lake Allegan Pub Club) and BMI (Hurdjamz), it was announced March 19. The deal additionally covers all future releases.

The acquired catalogs includes songs recorded by Lady Antebellum (“What If I Never Get Over You,” “You Look Good”), Luke Bryan (“Sunrise Sunburn Sunset Repeat”), Diplo (“Heartless” ft. Julia Michaels and Morgan Wallen) and Maren Morris (“I Wish I Was,” “All My Favorite People”), as well as his own cuts “Diamonds or Twine” and “To A T.”

 


 

Nashville singer-songwriter Adam Doleac has renewed his global co-publishing deal with Sony/ATV, it was announced March 16. The deal is independent of his first agreement with the publisher, under which he penned tracks for Hootie & The Blowfish, Kane Brown, Gabby Barrett and Darius Rucker. The new deal will cover all future releases.

Doleac signed to Sony Music Nashville’s Arista Nashville imprint in October. He recently released “Famous,” his first single as an artist, to country radio.

 


 

Producer-songwriter-musician Andrew Petroff has signed a global co-publishing deal with Concord Music Publishing, it was announced Wednesday (March 25). The agreement covers all future releases.

Based in Nashville, Petroff has worked with Sheryl Crow, Phillip Larue, Devon Gilfillian, David Nail and Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, among others. His work has also been heard on Grey’s Anatomy, The Blacklist, How to Get Away with Murder, Fox Sports, Nashville, Riverdale and in various advertisements for major brands including Dignity Health, Beyond Meat and Coca Cola.
