Among the ten best universities in Latin America, three are Brazilian public education institutions. The ranking released by the British consultancy QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) evaluated USP, Unicamp and UFRJ as the most prestigious in the country.
The survey, published annually, evaluated 410 educational institutions from 20 countries in the region. The ranking is led, as in the previous year, by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
USP appears in second place, Unicamp, in fifth, and URFJ, in ninth. Among the 100 best universities, 25 are Brazilian - 22 are public institutions, and only three are private.
Despite the good evaluation of Brazilian institutions, those responsible for the ranking, as in previous years, warn about the improvement of investments and universities' prestige in the country.
“Although Brazil continues to be the regional leader in higher education from a research perspective, its prevalence has decreased,” said Ben Sowter, director of research at QS.
