The winners of the prestigious Siena International Photo Awards dedicated to aerial photography, the Drone Awards 2020, have been announced and the 45 selected images taken from above are inspiring.

The Drone Awards, one of the most important worldwide competitions about aerial photography and video, is a project by the Italian Siena Awards dedicated “to a different photographic genre deliberately separated from being compared to traditional photography.”

The contest offers 10 categories for photographers to submit their best aerial shots: Wedding, Video, Urban, Nature, People, Animals, Abstract, Sports, Series and Empty cities: Life under Covid-19.

Here are the winners of the Wedding category, captured by the lenses of international photographers:

“A boat, a drone and...a lot of time,” the photographer of the image above explains. “A strong wind created a beautiful storm in the field. Perfect weather conditions showed me ‘the eye of the tiger’ or ‘deer eye’ through the couple in the kayak. A wonderful combination: beautiful lovers, fantastic nature, strong wind, and this perspective.”

The competition open to aerial photography and videos also includes shots taken from fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, balloons, blimps and dirigibles, rockets, kites and parachutes.

The Siena International Photo Award is one of the photo contests with the highest international participation. The 45 winners of the Drone Photo Awards 2020 were selected from thousands of beautiful images sent by photographers from 126 countries.

The winning photos from the various categories will be showcased in the "Above Us Only Sky" exhibition, scheduled from October 24 to November 29 at the "Accademia dei Fisiocritici" in Siena, one of the oldest Italian science museums, on the occasion of the Siena Awards Festival.

The show represents the only group exhibition held in Italy on aerial photography, with images that capture the beauty of the world as seen from the skies and allow imagination to tell a story.

The winning photographs will be awarded in Siena at the "Teatro dei Rinnovati” theatre in October during Siena Awards Festival.
