VA Daily Coronavirus Case Count, Percent Positive Rates Declining
VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 449 new coronavirus cases Monday, the lowest statewide total since 354 cases on July 6. As of Monday, the seven-day average of new coronavirus cases was 779.
For September, the seven-day average of cases peaked at 1,030 on Sept. 12. Since the pandemic started, the seven-day average of cases reached a high of 1,198 on Aug. 8.
The cumulative total number of cases in Virginia is 146,593 and the cumulative total number of coronavirus-related deaths across the state is 3,172. Total hospitalizations since the start of the pandemic increased to 10,916, up from 10,889 reported Sunday.
With a 4.7 percent positive average of PCR tests statewide as of Sept. 24, Virginia remained below the 5 percent rate recommended by the World Health Organization for governments to allow further reopening. A week earlier, on Sept. 17, the seven-day average was 5.8 percent. The peak was 20.8 percent on April 21.
A total of 2,027,168 PCR tests have been completed in the state, an increase of 24,039 from Sunday.
Among the new cases reported Monday, 110 cases were reported in the northwest region, 109 in the eastern, 94 in the northern region, 81 in the southwest region and 55 in the central region, according to the VDH.
There have been 17,483 total COVID-19 patients discharged from Virginia hospitals to date, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
The association said 890 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19. Hospitalizations statewide peaked at 1,625 on May 8.
As of Monday, current hospitalizations include 103 COVID-19 patients on ventilators and 193 in the intensive care units. Ventilator use is at 21 percent among all hospital patients, and ICU occupancy is at 78 percent. Virginia's 2019 average for ICU occupancy was 67 percent. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.
Among the coronavirus hospitalizations, 226 were reported in the state's central region as of Monday followed by 221 in the eastern region, 209 in the northern region, 151 in the southwest region and 83 in the northwest region. As of Monday, the seven-day average of coronavirus-related hospitalizations was 926.4 people.

Fairfax City: 138 cases, 14 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case
Falls Church: 70 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes reported
Loudoun County: 6,830 cases, 429 hospitalizations, 124 deaths; increase of 14 cases
Manassas: 1,919 cases, 128 hospitalizations, 25 deaths; one case removed
Manassas Park: 613 cases, 55 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case and one hospitalization
Prince William County: 12,484 cases, 910 hospitalizations, 203 deaths; increase of 35 cases and one hospitalization
Fredericksburg: 539 cases, 49 hospitalizations, five deaths; no changes reported
Spotsylvania County: 2,149 cases, 134 hospitalizations, 44 deaths; increase of nine cases and one hospitalization
Stafford County: 2,018 cases, 158 hospitalizations, 17 deaths; increase of six cases
