Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Carroll County

BREAKING: Carroll County is under a severe thunderstorm warning, and 60 mph winds may be headed for Westminster, among other areas.

CARROLL COUNTY, MD — A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Carroll and Frederick counties Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued the warning after a severe thunderstorm was detected in the area with 60 mph wind gusts.

Radar showed a severe thunderstorm near Taneytown that was moving northeast at 40 mph at 4:53 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, officials said.

The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 5:45 p.m.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, people should go inside to stay safe from wind and lightning. Do not drive underneath wooded areas until the threat has passed, as trees and branches may fall. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and localized power outages are possible, according to the warning.

These locations may be impacted, according to the warning: Westminster, Taneytown, Hampstead, Manchester, New Windsor, Union Bridge, Harney, Lineboro, New Midway, Ladiesburg, Rocky Ridge, Linwood, Detour, Uniontown, Millers, Greenmount, Keysville and
Keymar.
