Allen, Rochester clip SHG in CS8 meet

Rochester High School won two of three doubles matches, and they were the key points in giving the Rockets a 5-4 victory over Sacred Heart-Griffin in a girls Central State Eight Conference dual meet on Thursday at Sacred Heart-Griffin.

Both teams won three matches apiece in singles. But Tess Allen and Clare Gray claimed a straight-sets win at No. 2 doubles for Rochester, as did Hannah Tinder and Grace Petty at No. 3.

Rochester’s three singles wins came from Mollie Morrisey, Allen and Ellie Dyer. Morrisey, who won the No. 1 singles draw at the Central Illinois Invitational Tournament on Sept. 5, notched a 6-4, 6-4 victory over SHG’s Agnes Cross in the top match on Thursday. Allen defeated Sophie Anderson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, and Dyer downed Maddie O'Connor 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 for the Rockets.

Samira El-Amin recorded two points for SHG. El-Amin beat Rochester’s Reagan Martyn 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and teamed with Cross to defeat Morrisey and Martyn 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Sophie Reimers of SHG won a third-set tiebreaker (6-4, 4-6, 11-9) at No. 3 singles with a win over Gray, and Briana Huelsman posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Rochester’s Sophie Ommen at No. 6.
