Here's Really Why Meghan Markle Returned From Her Maternity Leave for Trooping the Colour
Meghan Markle arrived with Prince Harry at the 2019 Trooping the Colour Parade on Saturday in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's 93rd birthday.
The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to Archie Harrison on May 6.
Although Meghan is on maternity leave, she made a brief return for the occasion.
Meghan Markle gave birth to her first child Archie Harrison a little over a month ago. And while she's still on maternity leave, she graced royal fans with her presence at Queen Elizabeth II's annual Trooping the Colour parade on Saturday.
While donning a navy short sleeve dress by Givenchy with a matching hat by Noelle Stewart, the Duchess of Sussex arrived in a carriage alongside her husband Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and Camilla Parker Bowles for the event. This is Meghan's second Trooping the Colour experience – she made her debut last June with Harry shortly after the two tied the knot in May 2018.
Meghan's appearance may be surprising to some, considering that she's still on maternity leave. However, it makes sense that she ended up returning for such an important outing. Many royal experts consider the parade to be one of the biggest royal event of the year.
"Over 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together each June in a great display of military precision, horsemanship, and fanfare to mark The Queen's official birthday," the royal website notes. This year, Her Majesty is celebrating her 93rd birthday.
The tradition has carried on for over 260 years and is considered one of the most spectacular military displays in the country. For it, both Harry and Prince William wear their military attire. The Trooping concludes with the royal family gathering on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony to watch an RAF fly overhead.
Meghan is also following in her sister-in-law's steps. As royal fans know, the Duchess of Cambridge appeared at the event six weeks after Prince Louis was born last year. What's more, Kate also attended the spectacle in June 2015 after giving birth to Princess Charlotte in early May.
It's important to note, though, that just because Meghan is at Trooping the Colour doesn't mean her maternity leave is over. As Town and Country reports, her leave is estimated to be longer than three months and Harry's summer schedule is likely to be lighter over the next few months, as well. Still, royal fans will probably see them out and about, especially since Archie's christening is expected to take place in July or August.
All of this aside, we're just so glad to see Meghan and Harry looking so happy after welcoming their first child together. And next year, we'll be especially thrilled to see little Archie on the balcony, too.
