‘It's France and nothing else’ - Bouna Sarr turns down Senegal World Cup offer

Senegal have failed in their attempt to lure Bouna Sarr to represent the country at the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

Born to a Senegalese father and a Guinean mother, Sarr who has been in splendid form for Olympique Marseille this season has pledged his allegiance to France.

His assertion came after he met with officials from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).

"It's France and nothing else, nothing else is a big word, but I always dreamed of playing for the France team," the Marseille defender told French radio station RMC as reported by BBC Sport.

"I'm French, I was born here I only have an attraction for the Blues."

The 26-year-old had turned down an opportunity to represent Guinea at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea owing to club commitment.

In April, the former Metz player stated that he was not keen on taking the place of injured Djibril Sidibe in the French national team for Russia 2018.

Aliou Cisse’s men have been zoned in Group H alongside Poland, Colombia and Japan. They begin their campaign on June 19 against the Polish national team at Otkritie Arena, Moscow.
