As we approach the darkest days of the year, it’s only natural that we should begin to feel a little spooked out.

On this week’s episode of the Peak Northwest podcast, we’re highlighting some of the spookiest travel destinations in Oregon for a vacation or day hike.

It’s not all about ghost towns and haunted places – though there are plenty of those to visit. Some of Oregon’s spookiest destinations are simply places that may confront your fear of the unknown, from dark caves to foggy forests.

Does a chill run down your spine just thinking about? Does the hair stand up on the back of your neck? Here are some of the best destinations to creep you out this fall.

Here are some highlights from this week’s show:

  • Military batteries are an especially spooky attraction on the Oregon and Washington coast.
  • Ghost towns, where they may or may not be ghosts, can be found around eastern Oregon.
  • There are several haunted hotels around the region, where people have reported seeing ghosts.
  • Portlanders can always make a visit to the Stone House, also known as the Witch’s Castle, or head out to Sauvie Island.
  • Oregon’s outdoors also offers some natural areas with spooky vibes.

Here’s the full episode.
