SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Detectives say tips from the public helped identify a man suspected of committing sexual assault in downtown Savannah last month.

According to the Savannah Police Department (SPD), a woman was walking alone on Broughton Street around 4 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5. Police say the suspect grabbed her, forced her to the ground and assaulted her.

The suspect has since been identified as Judon Adams, 47, who was already in custody at the Chatham County Detention Center. SPD says Adams was booked on unrelated charges of shoplifting, terroristic threats and simple assault due to a September incident at the Savannah Mall.

Adams now faces additional charges of aggravated sexual battery and kidnapping in connection to the Broughton Street incident.
