Holograms are often a natural companion to digital signage. They can make a display come alive and make it feel like you are viewing a real person or object rather than just a video or image on a flat surface. This can, in turn, drive up both audience engagement and impressions.

Estonia's top telecommunications company, Elisa, recently experimented with holographic technology to promote a TV series.

The company partnered with JCDecaux Estonia, a subsidiary of outdoor advertiser JCDecaux to promote the launch of its TV series Reetur (The Traitor), according to a video from JCDecaux.

Elisa worked with holographic technology provider Holovision to deploy the double-sided virtual display in the capital city of Tallinn. The display itself showcased the lead actor of the show looking directly at people walking toward the display and then pulling out a camera and taking a picture. The display would also show a snapping image to mimic a camera's lens.

The display itself was deployed inside of a bus stop shelter and attracted attention from pedestrians, who would often pull out their own phones to catch a photo of this "traitor," according to the video.

JCDecaux has deployed holographic campaigns in the past to promote TV shows and movies in various countries. For example, the company created a display that showcased swirling rose petals that would slowly reveal the star of the Russian version of 'The Bachelor' show. In another campaign, JCDecaux promoted the movie "The Meg" by creating a virtual shark that would attack the screen and create a holographic glass cracking effect as if the shark was about to break through the display.

Other companies are also utilizing holographic displays to increase audience engagement. Portl Hologram Company recently launched displays that can beam in people for live 4K interactions or deliver pre-recorded hologram content.
