Ohio reports just 794 new coronavirus cases: Sunday update

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported Sunday that the number of confirmed or probable infections of the novel coronavirus had risen to 1,083,609, up 794 since Saturday.

The state did not report any new deaths in the last 24 hours. According to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, the total number of deaths is no longer available daily. It will be updated two times a week.

The state reported 1,297 new cases Saturday.

In the past 24 hours, COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide rose by 28, which is about one-fourth of the 21-day rolling average of 115 daily hospitalizations. Two COVID-19 patients were transferred to the ICU in the past 24 hours, while the current 21-day rolling average sit at 13.

Sunday’s case count is a little more than half than the 21-day rolling average, which currently sits at 1,449.

Ohio reported another 7,890 COVID-19 vaccines started, meaning at least one dose has been given, as of Sunday afternoon. A total of 4,834,135 vaccines have been started in the state, representing 41.36% of Ohio’s population. A total of 4,149,072 vaccinations have been completed (35.5% of Ohio’s population).

Coronavirus statistics on weekends often lag due to reporting delays.

There are nearly 158 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and close to 3.3 million deaths worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins researchers. In the U.S., there are more than 32.6 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and more than 581,000 COVID-19 deaths.
