It will come as a shock to absolutely no one that Married At First Sight relationships end in disaster.

Unsurprisingly, none of the ten marriages from the Channel 4 show have lasted more than a year.

For those couples that do actually make it down the aisle, after a few weeks of bliss it usually all comes crashing down.

Most split just weeks after their legally binding ceremonies, so it's a good job that producers put aside money to pay for their divorces.

But this doesn't deter singletons from wanting to get involved, with record numbers of applications each year.

There are a lot of varying reasons why marriages have broken down on the show, from cheating allegations to bad bedroom antics.

Here is a look at some of the most bizarre reasons Married At First Sight Couples got divorced.

Caught on Tinder

Back in series 1, Kate and Jason walked down the aisle and tied the knot.

But the personal trainer and financial advisor barely saw each other after getting back from their honeymoon in Ireland because of work.

However, working was the least of Kate's concerns when she discovered Jason was looking for love elsewhere.

Kate dumped Jason after catching him touting for romance on Tinder, despite being married to her.

"A friend just sent me this and so I guess that’s it – the ring’s coming off," Kate told the cameras.

"Instead of coming to meet me right now to talk this through, he's searching for a new wife on Tinder so that's it - the ring's off."

Jason denied betraying his bride and insisted he only joined the dating website after he realised his short-lived relationship with Kate would never work.

“I knew I wasn’t attracted to Kate from the beginning. She is clearly a good-looking girl – but after we got married I didn’t find her that attractive," he told The Mirror in 2015.

“I don’t think we were a good match. I have no idea what she thought though – we never spoke about it.”

Announcing cheating on radio

Ben and Stephanie seemed perfect at first (

Ben and Stephanie had instant chemistry in series 3 and seemed like a great match as they enjoyed a passionate honeymoon.

The relationship turned sour when they got back home and struggled living together.

However, Stephanie didn't realise they were getting a divorce until he announced it publicly on the radio.

"Stephanie and I are still friends but I couldn’t give her what she wanted and what she needed, and time is of the essence," he said on Fubar radio.

"And why waste someone’s time if it’s not there?"

Ben admitted it "killed" him to call time on their marriage as he praised Steph as a "lovely girl" and "phenomenal person", but admitted there were no sparks.

He added: "It broke my heart to do what I had to do, I couldn’t give someone so lovely and so nice what she wanted. She was gutted to be totally honest and she still wanted to try, but it ain't there, kiddo."

To make matters worse, Ben revealed he'd had a "kiss and a cuddle" with another woman, which Stephanie claimed meant sex.

The police officer said she only found out that they were definitely over when a friend sent her a link to a story with Ben's quotes.

"I started to shake as I opened my phone and clicked on a link someone had sent," she explained in an Instagram video.

"There was my husband sitting there laughing and joking about how he had cheated on me and we were getting divorced. I literally fell to my knees. I was shaking like a leaf and sobbing so hard that my friend started to panic.

"He was divorcing me. He had cheated on me."

Ben later confessed to playing away, claiming they were already in separate rooms just weeks after marrying.

“It happened in December and I was still married to Steph, we were meant to be seeing how things went but we both knew [it was over]... we just needed closure and I can only apologise," he told The Sun.

Snoring

Emma and James decided to call it quits (

Way back in series 1, Emma and James were the first ever pair to walk down the aisle.

They managed to outlast the rest of the couples from the first series but sadly decided to get a divorce after just 34 weeks.

Both Emma and James have insisted that there was not one major factor that caused the split, rather several issues that all added up to them no longer being compatible.

Some of the reasons they gave for splitting up were not not being sexually attracted to each other and snoring.

"Look, we had a sex life," Emma told the Daily Mail in December 2015.

"It just wasn’t always top of the agenda as it would be for most newlyweds, put it that way. I had feelings for James, but we weren’t passionate about each other."

Echoing her views, James added: "It wasn’t that natural between us,’ he says. ‘We were not as physically attracted to each other as we should be. That side of things sometimes felt like a bit of an effort."

Christmas annulment paper

Stephanie and Jonathan ended on a sour note (

It sounds like something out of the infamous EastEnders Christmas Day episode where Dirty Den gives Angie the divorce papers.

But it was the reality for Jonathan and Stephanie, who struggled to form a connection in the weeks following their wedding day.

Jonathan remained "conflicted" over whether he wanted to stay with Steph or not and deliberated his decision.

While Stephanie soon realised the relationship wasn't for her, but in a surprise twist it was Jonathan who officially called things off.

He ended their marriage by giving Steph annulment papers in an envelope for Christmas.

Despite her own reservations, she was horrified by the move as they had previously agreed to make any decisions about their marriage together.

Jonathan later admitted he regretted his decision and wanted her to give him two more weeks to try and make another go of it.

But after speaking with a sex and relationship expert they decided to go their separate ways.

Drifted apart

Series 3's Harriet and Richard seemed to have amazing chemistry when they first got together.

Things were going so well that even his joke about chatting up the waitress on their honeymoon didn't put a spanner in the works.

“I can’t imagine being with someone better suited. We have a lot in common," said Harriet.

In agreement, Richard said: “It feels great to be married. I feel proud to be married to Harriet. She’s incredibly successful, she’s very sweet.”

However, once they started to awkwardly spend nights in silence they eventually drifted apart.

In the show's finale, Harriet broke down in tears as she told the relationship experts that her marriage was over.

"I didn't want or expect it to end in divorce. So I leave with a heavy heart," she explained.

Not enough chemistry

Sara and Adam stayed together for a year before splitting (

As you would expect on a show where two strangers meet, by far the most common reason for splitting is just not having that right connection.

Viewers have expected many couples to stay together, only for it to be revealed they parted ways after filming stopped.

The longest of these was Sara and Adam in series 2, who lived together for a year before deciding there was a lack of chemistry.

"I think that science matches the compatibility between us; what the science can't match or can't create is the chemistry," Sara later said.

Series 2's Caroline and Adam had the same excuse - despite cementing their relationship by moving in together and buying a pet rabbit.

Last year, it seemed like Verity and Jack were the real deal - but they also lacked that bond.

Fans were hoping they would be the first ever couple to stay together, so were disappointed when their split was revealed in the final episode.

Jack dumped Verity after three months, then they both agreed they wanted to work on their relationship, but it was then explained they had separated.

"The last time I saw Verity was two weeks ago where I decided that we left it there and go our separate ways," explained Jack.

“It was hard making that decision and seeing someone get hurt. She is such an amazing girl, but I didn’t have that connection, that missing jigsaw puzzle, unfortunately we didn’t have that.”

He added: “I hope we’re still friends by the end of this. I know it’s hard now, but I hope we can come through and be friends, I just don’t know if she wants that.”

Fighting back tears, Verity said: "I really tried and I thought we were in it together, and were both gonna work at it.

"Jack said I wasn’t the one and thought he had given it his all, and that was it. We were only together for three months which I think is a drop in the ocean of trying to make it work, and it’s not the outcome I wanted."
