Forget fashion magazines, today kids are learning all the new trends on social media!

We sat down with girls ages 10 to 17 to learn what they're wearing in 2019!

“This is an oversized t-shirt that I like to wear.”

For kids right now, the name of the fashion game is super casual.

Just ask 13-year-old Olivia Ries.

“I like to stay comfortable in school, I only really wear athletic clothes,” Ries said.

A soon to be 9th grader at Voorheesville High School.

“Welcome back to my channel today I’m going to be doing my first ever spring try-on haul,” Ries said.

Olivia spends her free time talking about fashion trends on YouTube.

Doing "clothing hauls" which are really mini-fashion shows with her own looks.

“If you’re talking about YouTube and making videos, it’s something I do for fun, I would never do it for money.”

One of her latest videos teaches how to be a VSCO girl.

“There are so many accessories to have for VSCO ‘cus there's just a lot.”

“If you’re trying to put a trend online you’d put it on VSCO,” Ries said.

VCSO is an app for posting pictures, like Instagram, but right now kids are going to it to post everything fashion.

It’s not just Olivia, Scotia-Glenville High School students Kailyn Caddle and Riley B also told us about the VSCO look.

“For VSCO it’s a scrunchie and a Hydroflask, big t-shirts with crocs with a Hydroflask,” Caddle said.

Hydroflask, a.k.a.

“It’s a water bottle and super expensive,” Caddle said.

Being environmentally friendly is a part of the look.

“All the girls are buying metal straws now to save the turtles,” Riley B said.

And you heard it right, Scrunchies are back, in a major major way.

“I don’t know why they came back, but I think it's because they're really cute.”

But scrunchies aren't the only retro trend, says O’Rourke Middle School students Anna and Jane Overholt.

“Either checkered Vans in different colors, rainbow vans, or just plain white, and everyone who has them wants them, everyone who has them wants to have more,” Jane Overholt said.

The other must have accessory, puka shell necklaces.

“This one I’m wearing is also really popular, I think it’s more of a beachy vibe,” Anna Overholt said.

Kids aren't just picking clothes for the look.

“I like skirts especially skirts from Justice, because they have built-in shorts so that you can walk around and be more active,” Jane Overholt said.

These confident kids pick what works for them.

“I don’t care what people think about what I wear or anything, so I just do what I want to do,” Ries said.

The kids we interviewed ranged from 6th grade to 11th grade, and all of them told us about the same trends!

The majority tell us they get most of their style inspiration based on the outfits they see posted on social media.
