49ers get 6 injured players back, 10 miss practice

The 49ers’ first practice after Monday night’s preseason contest came with a bit of good news. Both offensive linemen Mike Person and Joshua Garnett were back in action, along with defensive end Ronald Blair, defensive tackle DJ Jones, defensive back Antone Exum Jr. and tight end Levine Toilolo according to Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee.

Person was dealing with a foot strain he suffered during last week’s joint practices with the Broncos. Garnett is finally back after missing two weeks due to surgery on a dislocated finger.

San Francisco is still dealing with several injuries though. The Athletic’s Matt Barrows noted at least 10 players were out, including George Kittle, Trent Taylor, Jerick McKinnon, Jaquiski Tartt, Adrian Colbert, Dee Ford, Elijah Lee, Jullian Taylor, Nick Bosa and Jason Verrett.

It’s tough to judge the gravity of the injuries sidelining so many players the amount of precaution the 49ers’ training staff is taking this preseason. Kittle, for example, said he would’ve been able to play on his calf strain Monday if it was a regular season game.

The third preseason game is typically treated as a final dress rehearsal for the regular season, but it’ll still be hard to glean anything from the players sitting out Saturday night in Kansas City. The game is still an exhibition and Week 1 of the regular season remains San Francisco’s goal for a fully healthy roster.
