ANTIOCH — Two residents were displaced and a dog killed in a two-alarm fire at a house Friday morning, authorities said.
No injuries were reported to the residents or firefighters.
The fire started at about 7:09 a.m. Friday at the two-story house in the 2300 block of Shelbourne Way.
A large column of black smoke could be seen from a long distance. When firefighters arrived on the scene they saw smoke and flames coming from the both first and second floor and requested a second alarm, officials said.
The adult residents were able to get out of the burning house on their own. The dog died inside the home.
The fire was brought under control at 7:26 a.m., Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Capt. Tracie Dutter said.
The house was declared a complete loss and damage was estimated to be at least $600,000, officials said. The residents were able to get their own shelter.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Dutter said.
