DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women's lacrosse program welcomes 11 student-athletes to campus today ahead of the 2019 campaign.
The incoming class includes Sophia LeRose of California, Eva Greco of Connecticut, Anna Callahan, Madeleine Jenner, Maddie Johnston and Olivia Rubin of Maryland, Anne Crabill of North Carolina, Veronica Hineman and Alexis Joseph of Pennsylvania, Katie Calvo of Virginia and Hannah Thurston of England.
“We are excited to finally welcome the Class of 2022 to campus this week," Kimel said. "These 11 young women, who hail from six different states and Great Britain, are set to make a tremendous and immediate impact on our program. Highly skilled, seasoned and competitive on the lacrosse field, they have led their respective teams to league, state and European championships this year. They are also incredibly talented students who will make the most of their opportunities to learn and grow in the classroom and through other academic endeavors here at Duke. We could not be more proud to welcome each of them and their families into our greater Duke lacrosse family!”

Anna Callahan - Midfield - Glenelg High School (Glenelg, Md.)
A three-time state champion at Glenelg, Callahan rounded out her high school career with a number of accolades. She was tabbed the Howard County Times/Columbia Flier and the Washington Post's 2018 Spring All-Met Player of the Year and was selected to the Under Armour All-America Game. The Baltimore native also was named the Brine/US Lacrosse High School Girls' Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year as a senior.
Katie Calvo - Midfield - Yorktown High School (Arlington, Va.)
A native of Arlington, Va., Calvo totaled 127 goals, 32 assists and 71 draw controls in three seasons at Yorktown. She topped the 50-goal mark as a senior to collect first team all-region and all-district laurels. Calvo also played for the Capital Lacrosse Club and was named to the Under Armour All-America Underclass D.C. team in 2017.
Anne Crabill - Midfield/Defense - Chapel Hill High School (Chapel Hill, N.C.)
A local product, Crabill was a three-time first team all-conference selection at Chapel Hill High School. She registered 134 goals, 46 assists, 131 ground balls and 44 takeaways in four seasons of action and was selected for the Bull City All-Star Game and N.C. National Tournament Team. Crabill competed with the Carolina Fever club program and also played golf and basketball at her school.
Eva Greco - Attack - Wilton High School (Wilton, Conn.)
Wilton's leading scorer as a senior with 65 goals, Greco led her squad to the conference finals this past spring. She finished her high school career with 163 goals and 75 assists despite missing much of her junior year due to injury. Greco twice earned All-America recognition and was selected to the All-FCIAC first team as a senior.
Veronica Hineman - Midfield - Unionville High School (West Chester, Pa.)
Hineman earned All-America distinction from US Lacrosse as a senior after guiding Unionville to league and state titles. She recorded 162 draw controls in her final season and rounded out her career with 139 goals, 61 assists and 320 draw controls. The West Chester, Pa., native was selected to the Under Armour Underclass All-America team and also took part in the US Lacrosse National Tournament with Philadelphia teams.
Maddie Jenner - Attack - McDonogh School (Annapolis, Md.)
The younger sister of Blue Devil senior Olivia Jenner, Maddie was one of 36 players recently selected to the training team for the 2019 U.S. women's U19 national squad. Over the summer she joined Callahan in the Under Armour All-America Game. At McDonogh, Maddie was a part of three IAAM Conference titles and was named the All-USA Today and Baltimore Sun All-Metro Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year as a junior.
Maddie Johnston - Defense/Midfield - Notre Dame Prep (Baltimore, Md.)
Johnston helped Notre Dame Prep capture its first IAAM A conference title since 2003 this past spring. For her career, she totaled 68 loose ball controls, 28 takeaways and five goals as a defender. Johnston also won several titles with her club team and competed in tennis at Notre Dame Prep.
Alexis Joseph - Defense - William Penn Charter School (Philadelphia, Pa).
Philadelphia native Joseph comes to Duke from William Penn Charter School, where she lettered all four years under the direction of head coach Colleen Magarity. She earned second team All-InterAc laurels as a junior before receiving first team distinction as a senior. Joseph was also named to the Under Armour All-America Philadelphia Girls Highlight squad her junior year.
Sophia LeRose - Goalkeeper - Torrey Pines High School (San Diego, Calif.)
A three-time San Diego CIF first team choice between the pipes, LeRose anchored a Torrey Pines team that claimed three straight league and CIF titles. She twice earned spots on the Under Armour All-America West team, garnering selection to the All-Tournament Team as a junior. LeRose was also named to the San Diego Avocado League first team as a junior and senior, in addition to receiving all-league honors in field hockey.
Olivia Rubin - Midfield - Bryn Mawr School (Baltimore, Md.)
Rubin joins Jenner on the 2019 U.S. women's U19 Training Team. A three-time all-conference selection in the midfield, she notched 174 goals, 112 ground balls and 200 draw controls over her four seasons, including 59 goals and 82 draw controls her senior year. Rubin was included in Inside Lacrosse's Top Young Gun rankings as a junior and senior and collected first team All-Metro accolades her senior season.
Hannah Thurston - Midfield - Lady Eleanore Holles School (Ealing, London, UK)
Thurston joins the Blue Devils from England, where she is a member of the country's U19 national team. She recently helped England's U20 squad take first at the European Women's Lacrosse Championships and was also a bronze medalist with England at the Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships in 2015. In addition to her success on the international stage, Thurston won the national schools championship with her high school team her senior year.
