Medina first responders save 3 dogs trapped in house fire

MEDINA, OH (WOIO) - Three dogs trapped in a house fire are safe thanks to the rescue efforts of Medina officers and firefighters.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a house fire on Yonder Road to assist the fire department on Thursday.

When Patrolman Deal of the Seville Police Department and Deputy Bland arrived on scene, they found the home full of smoke with flames showing, according to the sheriff.

The sheriff said Patrolman Deal and Deputy Bland went into the home when they found out that several family pets may still be inside.

They were able to find and remove one of the family’s dogs before the smoke and flames got too intense, according to the sheriff.

As they got out of the house, Deputy Salsgiver arrived on scene and helped the other officers try to save the dog’s life, the sheriff said.

The sheriff said when fire officials arrived on scene, they went into the house and searched for more victims.

According to the sheriff, firefighters found two more dogs and brought them out to the officers who performed live saving measures.

Deputy Bland, Deputy Salsgiver and Patrolman Deal resuscitated two of the three dogs on scene while the third was transported to a local vet for further treatment, the sheriff said.

According to the sheriff, all three dogs are recuperating at local facilities and are expected to recover.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Department released the following statement to show their appreciation for the responding units:
