Canby-Minneota, LqPV-DB runners

compete in TMB Invite

TRACY, Minn. — Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd won the boys division and Canby-Minneota finished second in the girls division in the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panther Invitational cross country meet on Thursday.

LqPV-DB won the boys division with a score of 35. Canby-Minneota finished fifth at 137.

Zeke Sather led LqPV-DB, finishing second in the 5,000-meter race in 17 minutes and 0.7 seconds. Mikey Kvaal was fifth (17:38.1), Griffin Johnson seventh (17:50.4) and Mason Brehmer ninth (17:56.20) for LqPV-DB. Payton Sterud was 12th in 18:32.7.

Blake Stoks led C-M, placing 15th in 18:44.2.

Grace Drietz of C-M was second in the girls’ 5,000-meter race (19:47.3). Anika Fernholz of LqPV-DB was 11th (22:10.1), Braelyn Merritt of C-M 12th (22:12.4) and McKenzie Ruether of C-M (22:34.9).

NORTHERN STATEMitch Tschakert of Watertown made an extra-point kick in the Wolves’ 33-7 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference loss to Bemidji State on Thursday.

He missed field-goal attempts from 30 and 40 yards in the loss.

SIOUX FALLS — Linebacker Brody Grantham of Hayti had two solo tackles and four assists in USF’s 41-17 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference loss to Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday.

WISCONSIN LUTHERAN — Great Plains Lutheran graduate Skylor Christensen had three kickoffs for 146 yards and also made a solo tackle in the team’s 27-15 season-opening loss to Lake Forest on Thursday.

Area College Volleyball

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA — The Mustangs opened play Friday and Saturday in the Michigan Tech Classic with two wins and one loss.

They beat Lake Superior State 3-0 and Northern Michigan 3-1 on Friday. Angela Young of Conde had nine kills, three assists, three aces, two block assists and seven digs against Lake Superior State and 13 kills, one ace, two assists, one solo block and eight digs against Northern Michigan.

The Mustangs opened the tourney with a 3-0 loss to host Michigan Tech on Thursday. Young had 14 kills, one ace, one assist and one dig.

Area College Women’s Soccer

BLACK HILLS STATE — Black Hills lost to Dakota Wesleyan 3-2 in overtime in a non-conference match on Friday.

Goalkeeper Teagen Hartley of Watertown made two saves and Alexa Buckley of Watertown had two shots in the match.

Area College Cross Country

MARTIN LUTHER — The Knights won the men's division with a score of 20 on Friday in the Bethany Lutheran Invite at Mankato, Minn.

Ryan Maertz of Watertown finished fourth in the 8,000-meter race (29:43.2).
