Is this the most bizarre IKEA item EVER? Shop set to sell giant rugs that looks like a receipt

IKEA is set to release a new rug which has left us scratching our heads

BILLY bookcases, Lack tables and comfy sofas... seemingly everyone in Britain has something from IKEA in their home.

But we aren't convinced the shop's latest item will be quite as popular.

Because it is a rug that looks like a giant IKEA shopping receipt.

And, confusingly, the receipt lists the price of the rug... meta.

Aimed at millennials, the receipt rug hasn't yet been released, but was previewed earlier this month at at an IKEA conference where it is part of the upcoming Markerad collection by designer Virgil Abloh.

Speaking to Dezeen,  IKEA's Henrik Most, who is working with Abloh as the creative lead for the collection, said: "Virgil has a fantastic ability to work with essential functions and basic materials and create something new."

He continued: "Each Markerad item is both a design object and a piece with high artistic value."

Abloh added: "I want each item to bring a sense of pride, and I want the great design to be the biggest reason why you get it."

People on social media have different views on the rug.

Extreme Baseball Watcher‏ said: "The ultimate meta piece of furniture, since the receipt lists the rug itself. (Yes, this is real)."
Harmonyღ‏  added: "Not gonna lie.. Some of the IKEA x OFF-WHITE collection isn't so bad!
"The IKEA Receipt rug is funny but cute."

It's not the only IKEA news provoking controversy.
