9 Flower-Strewn Erdem Dresses The Duchess Of Cambridge Could Well Pick Next Summer
Erdem Moralıoğlu’s collections come with a slice of history that has long piqued the interest of the Duchess of Cambridge. The designer’s splashy floral gowns, posy-dappled dresses and ladylike lace-embellished tailoring have lent Kate a certain degree of polish during state visits, gala dinners and weddings around the world. For spring/summer 2021, Moralıoğlu, one of the jewels in London Fashion Week’s crown, looked to the royal court of 18th-century Naples for inspiration. The season’s flora and fauna plays out against Susan Sontag’s historical romantic novel The Volcano Lover, which explores a love triangle between Emma Hamilton, her husband the British consul Sir William Hamilton, and Horatio Nelson. A rather explosive tale for 2020, when socialising has been kept to a minimum.
There was much in the woodland lookbook for the Duchess to bookmark and commission – with her own modest alterations – for next summer. From the sweet tunics with puff-sleeve blouses underneath and blossoming trouser suits to the elegant day dresses, every black, navy and white ensemble looked Kate-appropriate. Meanwhile, the peppy pink gown with black flora creeping up it would make a cheering return to red-carpet wear when glamorous state occasions are no longer a distant memory.
Also noteworthy: the number of Zoomable accessories. Most looks came with white neckerchiefs – some with black bows – and headbands – a very Kate accessory – which would spruce up the Duchess’s waist-up virtual wardrobe, should she have to fulfil any of her future royal duties online instead of in person. Digital appointments would also mean Kate could skip the satin platforms stylist Ibrahim Kamara paired with the collection, which are a vast departure from her signature court shoes.
Here, nine decorative Erdem spring/summer 2021 looks destined for the Duchess of Cambridge’s summer wardrobe.
