MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Questions remain after a man’s body was found floating in the Mississippi River downtown Wednesday afternoon.

Robert Hendon spotted the body around 4 p.m. while walking on the trail between the Tennessee Welcome Center and the Bass Pro Pyramid.

“I stopped, put actually an extra pair of socks on ‘cause it was tightening my boots ‘cause they was a little loose, a little big,” said Hendon. “I happened to look up in the river about 10 feet away, there was a body.”

Hendon called police immediately.

He said he couldn’t see any injuries to the man’s body from his vantage point. Police wouldn’t confirm a possible cause of death.

“Seemed like a white male, but he was face down. Black shirt and camouflage shorts,” said Hendon.
