A man is dead after getting in a car accident while riding his scooter Thursday night, said Troy police.

The incident happened at 7:30 p.m. on John R Road near Isabell Drive. The man, who was not within a crosswalk, improperly crossed the road in his personal mobility scooter when he was hit by a 2005 Ford Taurus.

The man was transported to Troy Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The driver was uninjured and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor with the driver.

An investigation is ongoing. Witnesses are asked to call the Troy Police Department Traffic Safety Unit at 248-524-3477.
