Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County after-school program received donations of dental kits courtesy of Avesis and Maryland Del. Mike McKay, R-Washington/Allegany.

The organization sent 350 dental kits that included a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and a cap for the toothbrush.

McKay and Washington County Commissioner Jeff Cline attended the Pennsylvania Avenue club on Sept. 23 to hand out the kits to the 85 members in attendance.

“Healthy smiles make healthy kids,” McKay said in a news release. “Those kids belong to the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.”

Avesis also provided dental kits to youths serving organizations in Allegany County.

“We think that oral health is super important in the life of our members,” Executive Director Addie Nardi said in the release. “We were so grateful to be able to start the school year giving our members one more tool to succeed this year.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Washington County runs four after-school programs and summer camps throughout Hagerstown.

The club has been serving the community since 1941 and currently serves about 700 city youths between the ages of 6 and 18.
