Dance classes slated in Sherburn

SHERBURN — The monthly steak and shrimp night will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Sherburn American Legion. They serve steak, shrimp or smoked pork chop along with a baked potato, garlic toast and salad bar. The public is welcome.

A brunch benefit for 10-year-old Aaliyah Bolstad, daughter of Harley and Alysia Bolstad of Trimont, will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the high school in Sherburn. There will also be a silent auction at the event.

Aaliyah was injured in a swimming accident on July 13. She has spent weeks while undergoing surgery at the hospital in Rochester, and this benefit will help her family with some of her medical bills.

Ruby’s Pantry will be hosting its monthly food distribution in Sherburn from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Regional Worship Center. There are no income or residency guidelines required to allow you to receive a share of food.

Those attending should bring two boxes, totes or laundry baskets to carry your food. A $20 cash donation is required. This distribution in Sherburn is always held the third Monday of every month. Anyone in the area is eligible to attend.

“Honey and the bees that make it” will be the topic at a Lunch and Learn event 11 a.m. Sept. 18 at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. Paul Harris from Harris Honey will present a learning experience.

After the program, CREST will serve a lunch of beef stew, homemade dinner rolls with honey butter and an apple dessert. Donation will be accepted to help defray costs of the meal. Everyone is invited.

The basics of dog obedience will be demonstrated in a Martin County West Community Education-sponsored class 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Oct. 7 and continuing through Nov. 11 at MCW Elementary School in Sherburn. Gary Hamman will be the instructor. Do not bring your dog to the first class. Dog owners must be at least 12 years of age or older, and dogs must be at least 3 months old. Please register before Oct. 4 by calling MCW Community Education at (507) 764-2336.

Standing Ovation Dance Team classes for students, ages 3 through 12th grade, will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Sherburn Community Center (below the theater) in Sherburn. Times will depend on the number of students who register. The first session of classes will begin Sept. 17 and continue through Nov. 21.

A tentative recital date is set for Nov. 23.

The cost per session is $90 for ages 3-6, $105 for ages 7-10, $120 for ages 11-14, and $135 for ages 15-18.

They will hold more sessions throughout the 2019-2020 school year.

The Martin County West Mavericks will play their first home football game at 7 p.m. Friday at the football field in Sherburn. Their opponent will be Jackson County Central. Come cheer on the Mavericks.
