The expected storm track for this winter may already be starting to show signs of happening. Look at the path the next three storms are expected to travel.
Here is the forecast of weather systems over the next two weeks. We have a weather system slated for this coming Sunday, then separate weather systems for next Wednesday and Thanksgiving and finally next weekend.
As I just wrote in the updated winter forecast, La Niña winters are noted for an active storm track through the Ohio Valley and into the Great Lakes region. Below is the winter precipitation forecast.
Doesn’t that precipitation forecast look very similar to the path the next three storms are taking? Yes it does.
Another great way to see the path of the three storm systems is to look at the total precipitation over the next nine days.
The total liquid amount of precipitation forecast for the next nine days matches perfectly with the heavier than normal precipitation swath expected this winter.
If a storm track similar to the next week sticks around for winter, Michigan is going to have its fair share of snow. We would eventually be on the colder northwest side of storm systems. That’s snow. It’s not just spotty snow either. This storm track would produce widespread meaty snow. It would be the kind of snow that’s hard to shovel and makes a snowman.
Don’t worry about a lot of snow in the next week. Temperatures should be too warm for a lot of snow to stick to the ground easily.
But if this storm track continues, we will get socked with snow at some point in late December or early January. Keep an eye out with me on how the storms are tracking.
