Springfield police are investigating after a fatal shooting killed a teenage boy and sent two others to the hospital late Wednesday night.

According to a Robertson County Sheriff's Office dispatcher, the incident began about 10 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a shooting call on Page Street and 16th Avenue North.

At some point, a teen was shot and a car crashed into a home two blocks away near Shelton Street.

Two other teenagers were also injured, authorities said. It was not immediately known whether they were in the vehicle with the teen who was shot.

All three teenagers from the car were taken to local hospitals for treatment, but one later died, according to a news release issued by Springfield Police Wednesday morning.

"The Springfield Police Department does not believe this incident to be a random act of violence as it appears that the individuals involved knew each other," the release reads.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Springfield Police Department at 615-384-8422.
