Tuscarawas County Fair livestock auction brings in $1.2 million

DOVER — The sale total for the 2021 market livestock auction at the Tuscarawas County Fair Thursday was $1.2 million — more than $500,000 more than the total of last year's auction.

Fair board president Reb Billman said the total was "amazing" and thanked the residents of Tuscarawas County.

"The support for the kids is fantastic," he said Friday. 

"We had a few more animals this year, but the price across the board stayed so steady through all the species. It just seemed like we didn't have enough animals to meet the demand."

Here are the results from the sale:

LAMBS

The grand champion lamb was exhibited by Marshall Miller and purchased by Kiko Auctioneers for $18 per pound. 

The reserve champion lamb was exhibited by Adeline Kendle and purchased by the Carrollton Farmers Exchange Co. Inc. for $28 per pound. 

A total of 28 lambs were sold. 

HOGS

The grand champion hog was exhibited by Kaitlin Yoder and purchased by Direct Action Inc. for $23 per pound. 

The reserve champion hog was exhibited by Jonathon Domer and purchased by Kendle Farms and McDonnell Farms for $19 per pound. 

A total of 322 hogs were sold. 

MARKET STEERS

The grand champion market steer was exhibited by MaKenna Oszust and purchased by the Kimble Companies for $8 per pound. 

The reserve champion market steer was exhibited by Kaden Conrad and purchased by Saltwell Western Store and Sugar Valley Meats for $5.75 per pound. 

DAIRY STEERS

The grand champion dairy steer was exhibited by Garrett Quillen and purchased by Broad Run Poultry LLC/Matt Miller and CYA Exchange LLC Carrollton Livestock for $5 per pound. 

The reserve champion dairy steer was exhibited by Brock Daugherty and purchased by Willandale Golf Cart Sales for $3.75 per pound. 

A total of 110 steers were sold.
