Geneva’s popular Swedish Days summer festival will return June 24 to 27, with some changes.

The Swedish Day Parade, Arts & Craft Show and Granquist Music Festival will not be held in 2021.

A Chocolate Crawl and live music events are planned. Details will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a news release.

“Due to the advanced planning required, the number of attendees both in the parade and spectators along with the current phase the state of Illinois is in, with regret we will be canceling the Swedish Days parade which would have been held on June 27,” Laura Rush, Geneva Chamber of Commerce communications manager, said in a news release.

A new Chocolate Crawl is scheduled for June 27. This will be a ticketed event, according to a news release.

Live music will return, both outdoors and in an indoor venue. Dates, locations and bands will be announced later this month.

The Geneva Settler’s Coffee will kick off the fest June 24 with a pickup breakfast at Geneva Golf Club.

Kids’ Day will be on June 25, but the Kids Day Parade will not be held this year.

“The Geneva Chamber is continuing to plan for a safe, shortened Swedish Days, abiding by state and city regulations. As we are unsure what phase we will be in, please note that events we are planning, especially those on public property, may have to be modified,” Rush said in a news release.

“We are well aware that Swedish Days is a tradition and was greatly missed last year. The chamber is creatively planning events off-site that will be crowd controlled and safe,” said Paula Schmidt, president of Geneva Chamber of Commerce, in a news release. “We hope to organize more events and happenings, however we must follow city and state regulations, while keeping everyone healthy and safe. Please be patient as we move forward.”

Like most summer festivals, Swedish Days was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
