Sioux Falls man sentenced for burglary of Riddle's Jewelry on night of riots

A man arrested after breaking into a Sioux Falls jewelry store during the riots in the area of the Empire Mall on May 31, 2020, has been sentenced.

Dantrez Decarlos Isaac, 21, from Sioux Falls was sentenced to three years in the state penitentiary with 260 days suspended for time served for third-degree burglary, according to court documents.

Isaac was identified in part because of a "distinct" design on a Nike hoodie he was wearing during the the burglary of Riddle's Jewelry on May 31, 2020. He was identified through surveillance footage and videos posted online by different sources. One anonymous caller and two CrimeStoppers tips also identified Isaac, according to court documents.

He was not charged with rioting, but for burglarizing the store near the mall.

The 21-year-old had a change of plea hearing on Tuesday and was sentenced during the same hearing, according to court documents.

Federal charges for another burglary same day as Sioux Falls riot

Isaac's sentence will run concurrent with a federal case in which he was sentenced on Monday, according to court documents.

In that case, Isaac was sentenced for theft from a federally licensed firearms dealer and aiding and abetting. He was given 18 months custody time and three years supervised release, according to court documents.

According to Isaac's federal indictment, he along with Denarius Lofton and Raymond Banks stole 13 handguns and two shotguns.

Lofton was also charged in the Riddle's Jewelry burglary, according to court documents. Both his federal and local cases are pending.

Banks was sentenced on Dec. 16 in the killing of pizza delivery driver Casey Bonhorst in Sioux Falls. Banks pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 80 years in prison with 20 years suspended.
