Stockbridge, Vermont man eletrocuted by downed power lines

STOCKBRIDGE, Vermont - Vermont State Police said a 50-year-old Stockbridge man was killed Monday afternoon when debris from tree cutting in his yard fell onto a live power line as he stood below.

Brent Smith collapsed and was unresponsive when the limbs fell onto the power line.  Family and friends with him at the time attempted to revive him but were unsuccessful.

While no debris was seen hitting Smith, police believe that the power was conducted through equipment that Smith may have been touching.

The Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
