UC Santa Barbara’s COVID-19 Response Team sent a mass email to the community on May 13 announcing that UCSB students, staff and faculty will no longer be required to complete the Daily COVID-19 Screening Survey prior to coming to campus and accessing the Recreation Center and Dining Commons.

The daily survey asks about common sickness symptoms, including having a sore throat, headache, body aches, runny nose and/or cough as well as exposure to COVID-19 through socializing or traveling. If an individual confirms any symptoms or exposure, they receive a purple badge and are unable to enter campus facilities until they are cleared with a green badge, which can be obtained with a negative COVID-19 test. A red badge indicates a positive COVID-19 test and obligation to quarantine.
Despite the discontinuation of the screening survey, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health will still require all UC employees to evaluate their own symptoms prior to coming to work.
“We remind all UC Santa Barbara campus members that no-cost COVID-19 PCR testing is available on campus by appointment through the Student Health Patient Portal, and that rapid antigen at-home test kits are available at the UCEN Campus Store Customer Service Desk and Loma Pelona Testing Center,” the email read.
The campus is providing an On Demand Screening Survey for departments that wish to continue utilizing the screening survey — a system that emails clearance certificates to the survey taker. These surveys are for visitors and nonaffiliated UCSB individuals only. This survey requires all campus visitors to prove that their vaccinations are up to date or show a recent negative COVID-19 test.
