Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles praised by Melvin Gordon, Phillip Lindsay

After averaging almost one penalty per game to begin his career, Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles has had a breakout season in 2020. Bolles has been penalized for holding just once in 10 games, according to STATS LLC. Pro Football Focus, a website that grades players on a 0-to-100 scale, has given Bolles a 90.0 rating this year.

Bolles has also been excellent in the run game, helping clear running lanes for Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay. After Denver rushed for 189 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-13 win over the Miami Dolphins last week, both running backs praised the team’s left tackle.

“Garrett was out there being a bouncer — bulldozing guys over,” Gordon said. “He was making some really great lanes for us.”

Added Lindsay: “You guys see Garett Bolles out there, the stuff he is doing is Pro Bowl. He’s having a hellacious year.”

Bolles appreciates the praise and has a great mentality.

“The job’s not done yet, my friends,” Bolles said Tuesday. “I have six more games to prove to myself and the rest of my career to prove to people that I belong in this league.”

After a rough start to begin his career, Bolles has bounced back well.

“I truly believe a man goes through a rough patch in their life for a reason, to make them better, and it speaks highly of how a man comes out of that,” Bolles said. “I truly believe I came out of it on a high note — I learned from my mistakes. I know exactly what I need to do to not let those mistakes happen.”
