Lee University sophomore Beck Burnette will be headed to the prestigious United States Golf Association Amateur Championship on Aug. 9-15 at the Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.

Burnette punched his ticket thanks to a fifth place finish in the U.S. Amateur Qualifier on Wednesday with a 10-under par 134 total. The event took place at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Ga. Burnette is the third Lee University golfer to punch his ticket to the US Amateur, joining Matt Emery (2014) and Brian Clark (2018).

"I'm super stoked to have pulled through this week! The US Am will be like nothing I've ever experienced.
I've put in the time this summer and gotten tremendous support from my parents and coaches, so to see some results is a huge motivator. Let's go make some noise in Pennsylvania," exclaimed Burnette.

"Qualifying for a USGA event is a special accomplishment. It was very satisfying to see the joy on Beck's face after he knew he made it through because I know how hard he works for these moments," said Lee Director of Golf, John Maupin. "He'll be right where he belongs up there amongst the best amateur and collegiate players in the country. I know he will be as well prepared as anyone."

Burnette earned All-American honors for the second straight season as he helped guide the Flames to a South Region Championship and advance all the way to match play at the National Championship this past season.
