The city of Miramar’s Mayor Wayne Messam was recently selected to the African American Mayors Association Board of Trustees.

In an announcement made on a Zoom conference call, Messam and the other members had a virtual swear-in to commemorate the event. The board, which comprises 17 mayors from across the nation, enables mayors to take positions on public policies that affect the liveliness and sustainability of their cities.

“It is a tremendous honor to be serving on the AAMA’s Board of Trustees,” Messam said in a statement. “Being able to come together with mayors from around the country to help find solutions that improve the quality of life for our residents is vital. We will be able to focus on unique local challenges and exchange ideas that will foster safer and more vibrant communities.”

The board was established in 2014 on the principles of transparency and accountability. The association’s mission is to empower local leaders for the benefit of their residents while providing mayors with leadership and management tools.
