A Honey Brook man accused of holding up a Morgantown bank was in Berks County Prison on Tuesday following arraignment.

Kevin D. Pierce, 49, was jailed in lieu of $25,000 following arraignment Monday night before Senior District Judge Thomas M. Gauby Sr. in Reading Central Court. Pierce faces charges of bank robbery, theft by unlawful taking and related counts.

The holdup happened shortly after noon Monday at the Ephrata National Bank branch at 6296 Morgantown Road, which is Route 10, in Caernarvon Township. No injuries were reported.

According to police:

Police responded to a report of a robbery at 12:11 p.m. Dispatchers described the suspect as a male, 5 feet 5 inches tall, who was wearing a blue windbreaker and blue jeans.

Bank tellers said the suspect showed a note indicating he had a gun. A teller gave him an undisclosed amount of money, and he left the bank.

As Caernarvon and Robeson Township police officers, who were assisting with the investigation, were interviewing bank employees, they received a call from 9-1-1 dispatchers that they had a man on the phone who gave his name as Kevin Pierce and claimed he had just robbed the bank branch.

The caller reported he was on his way home to Honey Brook, a few miles south on Route 10 in Chester County.

Caernarvon police headed to Pierce’s home and requested assistance from state police from Chester County.

Troopers went to the address Pierce provided and he came outside and surrendered peacefully. Troopers recovered the stolen cash from Pierce while arresting him.
