St. Paul school board chairwoman Marny Xiong, 31, remains hospitalized in critical condition from complications of COVID-19, according to a Facebook post by her sister Friday.

In the same post, Amee Xiong reported that her father was recovering and had his ventilator removed.

Earlier this month, Xiong posted on Facebook that both her sister and father were critically ill and “relying heavily” on ventilators to breath.

In that post, Amee Xiong said Marny Xiong may have gotten sick while visiting their father. He is an essential worker who had been regularly reporting for work, where a fellow employee fell ill. It’s also possible he was infected at a funeral, where another man had COVID-19, his daughter said.

Marny Xiong, a graduate of the St. Paul school district, was elected to the school board in 2017. She works for the Minneapolis school district as the school administrative manager at Hmong International Academy.

“Please continue to pray for her,” Amee Xiong wrote on Friday.
