Since Gov. Gavin Newsom released new reopening guidelines for California counties, Ventura County has been listed in the purple or "widespread" tier, which has the greatest number of restrictions. State officials rejected Ventura County's bid to qualify for reopening using other criteria, County Executive Mike Powers said Tuesday.

Ventura County will remain on the tier for at least two more weeks. It will be able to begin lifting restrictions and move onto the next tier once its average daily new COVID-19 cases reach approximately 60 per day for two consecutive weeks. The county currently averages approximately 63 new cases per day, according to information from the California Department of Public Health.
