The 16th-ranked Jimmie men's basketball team overcame a 17-point, second-half deficit on Wednesday night at Harold Newman Arena. But a 1-for-16 performance from beyond the 3-point arc doomed the University of Jamestown against seventh-ranked Dakota Wesleyan.

The Tigers' Samuel McCloud, Collin Kramer and Ty Hoglund all hit critical 3-pointers down the stretch after the Jimmies tied the game at 55-55 with a little less than 9 minutes to play. Dakota Wesleyan escaped Jamestown with a 75-65 win.

"They hit some big-time 3s there at the end and we just couldn't bounce back," said UJ men's basketball coach Danny Neville. "I thought we were going for too many home-run plays. We should've just done the little things, move the ball and do what we had to do, but we didn't do it tonight."

Trailing 39-25 after a sluggish first half and 44-27 just underway in the second, Jamestown put together an impressive 28-11 run to knot the score. But McCloud's first of two 3-pointers over the final nine minutes was a sign of things to come.

Hoglund scored seven of his game-high 22 points with less than two minutes remaining, including a deep 3-ball from near the Dakota Wesleyan bench off the left wing. The first-team All-American's deep trey with 1:37 left had the Tigers out front 69-63 and the visitors would coast from there.

"It was the most open shot I was going to get, so I took it," Hoglund said. "That basketball team is a big-time basketball team right there, so we knew we were going to have to grip and claw the whole way and we pulled out a good 40 minutes."

The Jimmies' Jack Talley scored a team-high 20 points but went 0 of 7 from 3-point range. Terrell Alfred made good on the Jimmies' lone trey (1-for-5), while freshman Mason Walters turned in his fourth double-double of the season (10 points, 10 rebounds).

The Jimmies outscored the Tigers 52-12 in the paint, which was offset by Dakota Wesleyan's 45 points on 15 3-point makes.

"I think they did a good job defensively, and we took some poor shots," Neville said. "Anytime you're rushing shots or forcing shots, you're not going to shoot a high percentage."

The Jimmies' seven-game winning streak came to an end. Jamestown (7-2, 1-1 GPAC) is at Northwestern College this Saturday to face the Red Raiders in Orange City, Iowa.
