A shooting Monday night in Pittsburg wounded a teenage boy several times in the legs and forearm, police said.

Police in a statement originally said the victim was a man but later amended their information. Police could not be immediately reached for more information about the person.

Officers responded to the area of Buchanan Road and Harbor Street just after 7 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of a person shot in the leg, police said. When officers arrived, they contacted the teen with the gunshot wounds, police said.

The officers gave him medical treatment and put a tourniquet on his right arm to stop the bleeding, police said. An ambulance took him a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. He later was transferred to Benioff Children’s Hospital.

Police in their statement said the person and another family member were sitting in a vehicle in the 4200 block of Suzanne Drive and that when he got out of the car, he heard gunshots. He began to run from the area and was hit by several rounds, police said.

Police have not identified a suspect or made an arrest. They said the person firing the shots fled the area.

They also asked the members of the public to help them if they have any information by calling the Pittsburg Police Department tip-line at 925-252-4040.
