Rhomerius Knight waited his turn.

Adamsville's Rhomerius Knight sprints toward a touchdown Friday, October 6, 2017, during Adamsville's 42-6 victory over McKenzie at Adamsville High School.

Adamsville was using a running back by committee up until a few weeks ago. However, injuries created a bigger role for Knight in the offense.

In the Cardinals’ biggest game of the season, Knight had a career night.

The senior had 11 carries for 226 yards, a 20.5 yard average, and four touchdowns as Adamsville (5-3, 3-1) upset No. 2 ranked Union City 42-20 in a Region 7-2A contest Friday night.

It’s the second straight week Knight has rushed for at least 200 yards.

“He's starting to get more of the carries in practice and stuff and it's starting to pay off for him,” Adamsville coach Brandon Gray said. “I guess when you quit splitting time with people, too, it starts helping.”

His breakaway speed once he gets to the second level allows him to pop runs for huge gains. Knight is also patient, allowing the offensive line to create blocking lanes for him to run through.

“Whenever I see a hole, and coach tells us all the time, put your hand on the trailer, hook to the trailer, hook to one of your blockers and as soon as you see that hole, go,” Knight said.

Adamsville is in the thick of hosting a playoff game following the win. The Cardinals are in second place, one game behind Trinity Christian Academy. Adamsville will be in prime position if Knight continues to put up big numbers and running for long touchdowns.

“It's an experience I can't explain,” Knight said. “I just wanna score for my team and make sure I get them on the board.”
