BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) announced Friday that Capitol Middle School has a new principal.

Karla Johnson, who is currently the principal of Capitol Elementary School, is also the middle school’s new administrative leader.

On Sept. 13, a large fight broke out at the middle school. Five students are facing expulsion for it. EBRSS says that Johnson’s hire is not related to the incident.

Effective immediately, Karla Johnson, principal of Capitol Elementary School will also serve as principal of Capitol Middle School. The East Baton Rouge Parish School System continues to explore the Community Schools Model that places emphasis on culture, climate and opportunities. This appointment bolsters that effort.

Karla Johnson has exhibited strong leadership and vision for her school community for over seven years and will bring the same level of commitment to Capitol Middle with a focus on alignment and support.

Clinton Sampson, who held the position of Acting Principal for Capitol Middle, will continue to utilize his skillset to support school communities for the district.

A community meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Capitol Middle School at 5:00 p.m.
