Chambersburg's next Christmas tree may be in your backyard

The big pine tree in your backyard could become the Borough of Chambersburg's 2022 Christmas tree.

The borough announced that it is looking to harvest and move a tree that will be the centerpiece of the town's Christmas decorations on Memorial Square through the holiday season.

The tree will be lit to close out the annual Christmas parade on the third Saturday evening in November and will stand on a corner of the square until around the turn of the new year.

The ideal tree will "look like a traditional Christmas tree," according to the borough's announcement, and be around 30 feet tall. It does not have to be a certain species. It should be easy to reach by truck.

The borough will pay a professional arborist to remove the tree.

The borough's annual Christmas tree is typically donated from a private property. Last year, however, a tree on a borough property that had been originally chosen was deemed not suitable for harvesting, and borough officials had to quickly find another one.

"We were fortunate to receive a donation from Guilford Township," Assistant Director of Public Works Elwood Sord said in a news release. "This year we are again asking for local assistance in locating a suitable tree for our Christmas season.”
